Jacket Conversion from Vmac

Quite a few months ago I sent an old Harris Tweed jacket I have not been wearing much out to Vmac who posts on here fairly regularly to be converted to a kilt jacket. After just a few weeks and a very reasonable fee it came back. I could not be more pleased with how it turned out.

I finally had a chance to wear it last weekend. A very old and exclusive gun club near my home has an annual Game Dinner and dance. I am not a member but I have friends who are. I donated some venison and a few ducks to the event and so received an invitation. I thought it was a perfect occasion for the Harris Tweed. One of my friends snapped this photo out on the porch.

Yes, I wish I knew more about tweed. I will have to get my Google finger working and do some research. I have had this jacket for over 20 years in its original pre-conversion form. It has the Harris Tweed label inside but I have noticed even not all Harris Tweed is created equal. This is one with quite a thick hard feel, it is kind of scratchy but quite warm and fairly water repellant. It can be even too warm in an overheated crowded room.

The diversity in styles of Harris Tweed is really quite amazing, but they are all top quality, eh? One of my kilt jackets is a vintage lovat green Harris Tweed that I got on eBay and it is very thick, but still soft. The colour is amazing because at a distance it is solid, while up close one can see it is made up from many different colours twisted into the yarn.

You (and the jacket) look great! Well put together. There is a relatively exclusive gun club in my neck of the woods...however, I can't see wearing a kilt to an event. I really do like the look of that jacket. Wow.
