Today I went with Shannon on a birthday celebration whalewatching cruise out of Half Moon Bay, which was my first time kilted in a "nautical setting". Hoping that the stars might at last be right for a more. . .interesting. . .sighting, I wore my R'lyeh Sett kilt and a brown devilfish-skin sporran.
Alas, only whales were spotted; though in addition to the hoped-for greys there was one minke whale, which Shannon was first to spot. The Oceanic Society naturalist on board said it's the first seen this year.
It was a grey, chilly, windy day on the water, with an unsettled surface. By halfway through through about 1/3 of the passengers just hoped to get back before they froze, lost their lunch, or both.
