If you do not desire the blue argyll with the silver buttons, feeling it is not as formal as yours and others black ones worn for the same events, I would simply change the buttons to some horn buttons. Steps it down a notch but not quite as far as a simple tweed might.
Personally I think it looks grand, but understand how you might feel like you stick out amidst the nearly universal black with silver argylls, and if that makes you comfortable changing the buttons seems like it will give your jacket a new life as a more daywear jacket rather than a dress jacket.

I might suggest getting a matching blue vest for more formality
and losing the tie altogether for daytime (less formality)?
You could also experiment with different colored ties.......perhaps even a bow tie.
Just a few options that crossed my mind. The coat however as I already stated, is cool.

Or having it dyed black. (then I would have 2 black Argyles)
What do you think?
Assuming your jacket is made from barathea and not tweed, I would treat it like a regular, black barathea, dress Argyll. Formal day wear (i.e. morning dress) with a long tie/regular shirt/day sporran and formal evening attire (i.e. black tie) with a formal shirt/black bow tie/evening sporran. The blue will make you stand out in the room, but I don't think that is such a bad thing because it is such a nice colour!

I'm with Forrester, change out the buttons to something less flashy, cloth covered or a more subtle metal.

*** on the subtle metal. I think that jacket would look extra sharp with pewter buttons! If you really want to wear black for evening I'd say make this jacket as versital as possible and go with non-shiny buttons or something matching the jacket color.
As for being blue, I wouldn't sweat it. I've noted a number of blue, red, burgundy, purple, etc. etc. doublets. If you can go that formal and not wear black, then a blue argyle is okay I think. Even then, the pewter buttons would look good in an evening setting. It would be even nicer to have a waistcoat to go with it. It doesn't have to match. For many purposes a gray one would look really good IMO.
Overall, I think you look sharp! As a guy who is regularly the only one kilted I'm not sure how I'd feel in a room full of kilties if I was wearing the same jacket as them.

Blue Barathea Argyll jacket is as formal as black, and if you want a slightly more formal style, add a blue or black vest. If you want to tone down the formality, do as ForresterModern says, replace the buttons with horn buttons.

I'll throw my support in with ForresterModern, Zardoz, and others who suggest a button swap. That blue jacket could be every bit as formal as a black jacket of the same style if you wanted it to. What makes it look less formal in your photo is your choice of shirt and tie, not the jacket itself. Had you been wearing a shirt with studs and a black bow tie, I'm betting it would have presented itself on the same level of formality as the others in the photo.
But since you already have a black Argyll jacket, I'd keep this one blue and 'dress it down' by swapping out to pewter buttons, or brass buttons, or some other style that puts it more on the level of a blazer rather than a suit coat. Personally, I would stay away from horn buttons or leather-covered buttons, as those seem more suited to tweed jackets. But pewter and brass seem about right.

I am actually envious of your blue Argyll, as I have wanted one for upscale wear but below dress wear. Unfortunately my 52XL size needs limit my options, and I have yet to find a reasonable deal for one in my size, even knowing I will likely be changing out the buttons myself.

Going for the stag-horn buttons will be enough. The rest looks great and should be left alone.
It's just my opinion, but I'm very fond of it.
Scotland is only 1/5 the size of Montana, but Scotland has over 3,000 castles and Montana has none.

I wouldn't change it or, if at all, the buttons. Beautiful jacket.
