YES, I did it ! First own tartan registered
Hi folks,
beeing in a kind of kilt-rush I had the idea of creating my own tartan for me, my family and friends and pipe smokers. It was created with my second pasion in mind: pipe smoking ;-)
http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/tar...aspx?ref=10606
The background of the colours:
black - red - gold -> the national flag of Germany AND the main tobaccos of pipe tobacco : Latakia, Bright Virginia, Red Virginia
blue - green -> my homage to the main colours of the landscape of Scotland
brown -> tobacco in general , but burley in mind
comments welcome !
Regards
Marcus

I saw it on the Tartan Register site this morning. That is a tartan to be proud of. The colours remind me of the elaborate paint jobs on British locomotives, with the broad bands and fine "pinstripe" effect. Very nicely done.
You've passed the first hurdle--the next is to get it woven. Hint: if you get subscribers, you have money in hand and a commitment to buy yardage. Promises (especially from family) are not worth much, according to my experience.
EPITAPH: Decades from now, no one will know what my bank balance looked like, it won't matter to anyone what kind of car I drove, nor will anyone care what sort of house I lived in. But the world will be a different place, because I did something so mind bafflingly eccentric that my ruins have become a tourist attraction.

I saw that in my email inbox this morning. Congratulations on your registration!
I look forward to seeing a woven sample (preferably in kilt form).

Well done Marcus! I too received an E-mail from the Tartan Register this morning which gave details of your superb new tartan. I love the colours you have chosen and, of course, the reasons for doing so. I also remember just how excited and proud I was when Rocky (USA Kilts), the gifted designer of my personal tartan, had it officially registered and, indeed, woven. Yours will make a stunning kilt.
Take care,
Ham.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…
