    Advice, suggestions, etc.

I picked up a very fine sport coat of Harris Tweed today at a thrift store for 10 bucks. A friend has offered to alter it for a wedding next Saturday. Here's where you guys come in. I prefer the look of these jackets with a waistcoat. The problem is, finding a waistcoat to match the tweed of the coat. Have you guys got any suggestions or optional looks I might try? I'll probably wear a white button up dress shirt and lovat green or dark blue hose with it.

Any ideas would be much appreciated. Pics would help, too.

    Thanks, Kris

I would just go with a solid color that matched the main color in the tweed.

Alternatively, a dark sold that matches one of the accents in the tweed might work as well.

I wouldn't worry to much about matching the tweed, just go with a color that generally matches the overall feel of the jacket and you'll be fine.

Don't feel limited to having to match your waistcoat to your jacket.
Below is a photo of a contrasting burgundy coloured waistcoat with a lovat great jacket, just to give you some ideas.

A waistcoat like Downunder would look grand, especially if you dont have one of the same tweed the jacket is made from. Ive had my eyes on the New Bankers Vest in burgundy at Gentleman's Emporium. Has a classy cut and is made of wool so for me its a winner. They have black as well and also carry quite a few other Victorian and 1800's waistcoats. Im sure they have a rush delivery if you need. Sorta looks like the same wasitcoat Downunder has on. To me a nice dark burgundy is hard to beat and works well with many other colors.

probably not, there is the danger of too much tartan, a plain colour really seems the best way to go, and don't worry too much about the precise colour, pick something that you like and feel comfortable with

I suppose I am living dangerously, then!

Seriously, though, I have never seen a gentleman wearing a tartan waistcoat, either evening or day wear, and thought to myself "that is way too much tartan!" So I think it would look fine.

However, if the OP needs it within a week, a custom tartan waistcoat is not going to happen, so I vote for a complementary colored solid waistcoat, assuming such is available in his time frame. Otherwise, no waistcoat.
