Thankfully things are not like that with mine, Allen. She just finds it very strange and well it seems to her to also be expensive thing to get into.Which I can see and understand.

As genealogy is an important thing in her family I'll be talking to her grandparents to see if they know the clan(s) that they descend from, and look to see about getting a kilt with that tartan down the road. I do have the say thank you for the help. The joking, sympathy and understanding really helped get things to where they are. So I'll b sure to express my appreciation to those of you that I meet in person... though that wont be many, sadly.

You're lucky fellow, Nik. Your lady posted here and she seems like a reasonable woman. All this stuff CAN be expensive, just go look at the Traditional Kiltwear forum. That stuff doesn't come cheap. Also, it seems that you all got started in it as part of a costume-y thing at Faire. Well, moving from Ren Faire costume to everyday clothes IS a bit of a change, right? It's not beyond reason that she's thinking that this might be a little bit odd. It seems reasonably clear that you're not married to a tyrant. Work with her.

I bet dollars to doughnuts that it'll be fine.

I agree with Mark's suggestion. Go to one of the local Highland Games in your area and enjoy it. At the same time, you'll both see a lot of Kilt wearers and different accessories. I'm into genealogy and have been working my wife's Scottish ancestry. I went to the Chicago Highland Games last June and really had a great time. (I'll admit that some of that was due to the Whisky Live tent). With that, I filled out one of the Clan membership forms and got her to sign it. She was pretty lukewarm to the whole Scottish thing for a few months until we attended a Highlands Games in Ocala, Florida during the winter. Within a week, we were online buying a woman's kilted skirt in her tartan colors. But you're both right...it can be expensive if it gets away from you.

to niks wife mrs,nik XXX ,well now my wife hates me wearing a kilt, said to a friends wife when out , He is scots in blood but not a scotsman. Parents are ,were Scots. I tend to wear it wirhout her i.e. dog walking or seeing friends. why the grief, cant I be proud of hertage ,feel I am hiding myself. Doesnt want me to join masons(why, jealous of new friends)What is with women, can see divorce looming. Ilove this woman ,but NUTTY, why

My wife is quite confused with the kilted notion, but is dealing with it since I wear it regardless of her objections should I so choose to wear a kilt out and about.

I told her it is a choice I choose to make, and that I have always fully supported her choices so why not support mine?

This has brought her around a good bit, but there is still some work to be done 'round here.

My wife likes me wearing a Kilt. She's not so keen on me squandering the children's inheritance in acquiring them, along with all the bits and bobs it takes to make them "just so" ... obsessive? Me?... Whaddya meeeeeaan? Hardly obsessive!

But she's quite happy to be with me when I'm out and about and she frequently encourages me to wear them (She's also got a couple of Kilts of her own). She tells me she likes the air of confidence I seem to project and how I easily deal with the consternation of some people who are less than open minded.

I am most fortunate in this respect I suppose. I think I would find it difficult to be so comfortable with myself if someone important to me was constantly chipping away by being continually disparaging about my appearance. Having a partner who is supportive really is a benefit and a boost. Lucky man me... I'm glad to see you are both following this adventure as a partnership.

See? see? look... even mee wifey's got a Kilt on.

(incidentally... Me in Bruce Modern and my Wife in 'The Australian' tartan. No she's not Australian, it's a long story.)
