    Yikes! I was surprised at how much it went for. But it's a very nice thing don't get me wrong.

    I paid something like $325 for mine, but it was a rather later-looking cantle, probably early 20th century, being cast. And mine has a modern goathair body. No doubt this one is much more valuable, being both older and all original.

    I guess what I was getting at was that someone paid $2,050.00 for this: "A vintage sporran, in good condition, metal work would benefit from a polish." It did not mention silver. They do not mention halmarks or do they show any. I think it is coin silver that does not display halmarks, but is it as valuable as sterling silver? Would it make a difference in this case? I'm not saying that it isn't worth that much, but someone took a big risk with such a minimal description. Or maybe they just have loads of cash burning a hole in their semi-formal sporran.
