Thanks for that Bubba. A bit like our Rememberance Sunday (in November) I expect, when we remember and give thanks for all those who fought for our freedom from the 1914/18 war to the present day.
We don't seem to go in for parades here, like you do. The last one I saw was at the time of Her Majesty's Coronation in 1953, when I stood with my father for seven hours in the rain waiting for the great parade in London. That one took three hours to pass by! I'm ashamed to admit that we don't fly our flag much either (except at the present time when every other car has the St. George's flag fluttering in honour of the European Football shindig that's just started in Portugal!)
I admire the way in which you North Americans fly the flag from virtually every house. If we want to do that, with a flagpole, we have to apply for and obtain local planning permission, which can take months, and is often refused. So most of us don't bother, Sad, eh?
