I think i must be an old geezer, and have a distinct preference for black hose and wear them more than any other colour. I also like lovat green/lovat blue with my ancient Ramsay and Gordon kilts and beige for Weathered Gordon.
I had more or less stopped wearing the off white hose I wore for 20 years or more, influenced by what I read here mainly, but to me they still look best with a Prince Charlie and black tie and will stick to them for formal events. I appreciate that elaborate and expensive patterned/diced hose appeal to many people, but not to me. I would not feel confident scrunched and always wear flashes and garters.
I think the kilt is a powerful sartorial statement and generally it doesn't need anything to compete with.
