That's great advice from a great mind. If I remember correctly, Mr. Feynman was the guy on the Shuttle Challenger investigation team who took a piece of O-ring and dipped it in his glass of ice-water. That's the ultimate KISS (keep it simply, stupid).

I know nothing of course about the nature of this particular friendship nor it's nuances (what I mean by that is I don't know this guy and maybe he's just being funny and sarcastic) but, have to admit my first thought was: "I'd tell this guy to pish off and find new friends".

I don't think much of your 'friend'. He should have had the courage to speak to you face to face, so that tells us a lot about his character. Also a friend (in my opinion) is someone who has your back, and not to do the backstabbing. Lastly, I don't think your friend will ever be a member of this forum. Choose your friends with more wisdom in the future.

My response would likely have been something like..."Wow!, sucks to be you!". At 52 I have finally reached a point in life where I care very little what others think of my choices. Maintaining a friendship requires effort from both parties. Is your "friend" worth the effort? More to the point are you worth his effort? From the tone of the note I think it is clear that for him, the friendship has become too much of a burdon for him.

Now, if you'd like to have some fun with it throw a party and invite all your friends but make sure all the guys come kilted...sort of a kilted intervention for the insecure dude. That might be fun. Or take him to see "Brave" on the 22nd of June...lol.

He is entitled to an opinion, and it is good to be honest and open with your friends. But he was kind of a jerk about it, jeez. If he were my friend, and a true friend I mean, I would have probably bare-knuckle boxed him out front for the heck of it!

I don't get the flashy and/or expensive car... motor cycle (and leathers)... boat (power, sail, or "yacht") ... horses and western wear... fancy suits, expensive watches, ... unconventional hair (facial and/or otherwise) .. tattoos... etc. ... thing......

' Sounds like what this guy doesn't get is allowing other people to express themselves as they wish instead of conforming to his particular standards, whatever they may be (pretty clearly they exclude wearing the kilt). This is not something that is a mater of law nor even ethics or morality but rather of taste or style and this guy doesn't seem to allow for any other than his own. Some friend!
