the Kilt....the only garment in the world that seems to automatically allow complete strangers to ask and discuss whether you have underwear on right in front of you haha.

I don't actually get asked very often, but I always turn it around on them, either "Why are you interested? Where did you hear that"? if they're not attractive. "Why, what're you wearing? Cotton? Silk? What colour? Any print? Can I see"? If they are.

At the Celtic Fling this weekend I had the discussion with my 8 year old daughter after a lady asked me while we're walking along. She also thought it weird that the kilt seemed to make people believe it's now OK to ask about a strangers underpants.

"The Highland dress is essentially a 'free' dress, -- that is to say, a man's taste and circumstances must alone be permitted to decide when and where and how he should wear it... I presume to dictate to no man what he shall eat or drink or wherewithal he shall be clothed." -- The Hon. Stuart Ruaidri Erskine, The Kilt & How to Wear It, 1901.

I was at Food Lion (the grocery store) I wasn't kilted, but was discussing them with the girl at the register, so she asked if I wore underwear with my kilt. I told her that was my buisness and she said that ment I didn't. I do. Wonder what she'd have said if I asked her the same question. Tell me or have me locked up?
