Kilted Sci-Fi Writers
I knew S.M. Stirling wears a kilt.
I knew Michael Z. Williamson wears a kilt.
I found out today that John Ringo also sometimes wears a kilt. My three favorite male sci-fi writers all wear kilts. Interesting. I say male writers, since my favorite writer is Lois McMaster Bujold, and she, afaik, does not wear a kilt.

Wonder if there's a doctoral thesis there somewhere - Freeing creativity with unbifurcated garments....

These writers think about the future, and the future in men's clothing is the kilt!!!

I haven't been able to find anything saying whether or not he ever wore a kilt, but Robert A. Heinlein certainly was a proponent of them! I agree with X, too, that the kilt is the garment of the future.

Well, I'm certainly not famous, but I have had some short stories published in that genre.

It's a part of their research, I think. The CPUs in Cyborgs rapidly overheat, and bipedalism works much better with air-cooling rather than liquid-cooling: easier to walk around in a kilt than with a 3-gallon tank strapped to your groin.

Hopefully you aren't speaking from experience.
Actually, having attended close to two hundred cons, both major and small, over the last 35 years, the only writer that I can remember who actually wore a kilt (other than as a hall costume) was the late Paul Zimmer, brother of Marion Zimmer Bradley.

Not quite on topic, but Jerry Pournelle featured various planets in his "Co-Dominium/Empire of Man" universe that had kilt-wearing descendants of Scottish colonists. I recall "King David's World" and "New Scotland" itself...!

I'm not famous either, but I do have a sci-fi/fantasy book published. (leaving for Scotland in two weeks doing research for books 2&3) So anyway, that brings your count of kilted authors up to 6 or 7.
Scotland is only 1/5 the size of Montana, but Scotland has over 3,000 castles and Montana has none.

I know having met the gentlemen, that Stirling and Williamson both are sometimes kilted (outside of cons), and a friend has said he met John Ringo coming out of a hotel kilted. I'm told Dragon Con is awash in kilts.
