Another good place to look for tartans is Tartan Ferret http://www.tartansauthority.com/tartan-ferret. Just type in German under tartan name. If you wear a tartan to which you have no family connection, the main thing is to know the name of the tartan and maybe something about the clan itself.

Go to Munich during Weisn and take a look at all the tartan worn there. On our last day in Munich, we were headed to fest when we got on a bus full of Scots. I asked where were their kilts. They said they wore them last night. Mine was in the the suitcase in the train station locker.

I have no Scottish r.oots, but served in a Scottish Regiment. I have Welsh roots through my Mother and wear the 'Heritage of Wales' tartan. Wearing the Kilt is Germany is no problem, just go ahead and disregard the comments.

There is just another possibility for "legally" wearing the kilt in Germany - I got the permission from the Black Watch Regiment (in 2004, before they were amalgamated) and the kilt tailored by one of the regimental tailors.
I kilt up very often without getting any negative comment, even wearing my camo x-kilt.
You will, however, find that many of our fellow countrymen dig out their school English to get in contact with you.
At least, it does not take a Scot to wear a kilt but a real man.

My first kilt was the Xmarks universal tartan from Freedom Kilts. I really like the pattern and it has pockets to boot.
