The decision to wear a kilt. Forced on me in Ferryhill North Church, Aberdeen, 1964.
Choice of kilt. Gordon No.3
The occasion. Some well-meaning idea that Sunday School bairns should wear Gordon Highlanders kilts as the church was affiliated with the regiment.
Your experience. I was only 4 years old that the time and I can't really remember feeling much different. I had already seen plenty kilts by then as all the males on the mother's side went into the Gordons, as they had been doing for over 100 years.
The response. A load of excited young boys dressed up like soldiers, the envitable happened, a fight broke out. Surprised myself by giving a good account against the Grant twins, who I had previously feared.
Kilt wearing since then. Yes, indubitably.
