This thing has been a real beating. I've only finished half of the pleats and it's been months since I started this thing. I'm not too happy with how the pleats have turned out either but the overall effect still seems to be pleasing. Not as much time for working on this thing being an AC tech in the South. Not much motivation when I do have free time. I'll have to wear this one with pride when I finish it because it will be a hard-won victory!

If you're unhappy, tear out the pleats. I know it seems like you'll have lost all that time, but you'll be happier for much longer once it's done. Just my 2¢.

Try to make sewing the kilt a habit - even if it only working half an hour a week, always doing it at a particular day and time, and do not schedule anything else to interfere with that.

I always find that something done as a regular routine gets done, but trying to find - say - a whole morning to concentrate on one thing, it just never happens.

I work crazy hours during the summer. I'm a A/C technician. Finding time when I'm not at work and not completely worn out is rare. I have decided, after much thought, to go with Xman's suggestion and rip all the pleats out and start over. I think I'll use a template this time to ensure that my stripes are indeed centered throughout the entire length of the fell.

    sewing the edge?

I am just curious, why are you basting down the whole edge of the pleat? i don't recall doing this on the kilt that I made. I remember taking the time to carefully straighten the the pleat from the fell down but I don't recall sewing the whole edge. Am I wrong?

Yes. If the purple stripe was wider I wouldn't bother basting the pleat edge. Because I'm using every single thread of the purple, I didn't want to risk the edge moving during pressing and showing the black stripe.

I just finished picking the stitches for the last pleat. Time to have a go at it again with hopefully better results.

What are you going to do differently this time?

I'm going to try using a template this time. I've never used one. We'll see how it works out.
