To kilt or not to kilt, that is the question....

I believe I have the support from my fellow kilties but I thought I'd ask anyway....

My wife was honored by being a 2012 Olympic Torchbearer. Her torch relay run is Tuesday, 7/24 in Richmond, UK. As a torchbearer, there are many special events planned the day of her run as well as several parties leading up to the opening of the Olympics.

Well, I would like to wear a kilt, at least, during the day of her relay on Tuesday. However, as we have all experienced, often times attention is given to the one in the crowd with the kilt on as opposed to others. I do not want to draw attention to me in anyway when it's my wife's very special day.

So, in your opinion, should I wear a kilt to the Olympic events we attend?

I say wear the kilt. I can't imagine even a kilt will do much to draw attention away from an Olympic torch bearer at an Olympic event. Of course, the alternative if you haven't already done so is to ask if she minds.

The one place I would never feel that a man in a kilt would look out of the ordinary is in Great Britain. Don't hesitate and wear it. -Matt

If your wife doesn't mind go for it.

Congrats to her for that honor!

I'll agree with the above posters. I too doubt that one man in the crowd will draw much attention away from an Olympic Torch Bearer. If your wife has no strong objections then I'd go for it. Might as well be comfortable.

... In other words, listen to what she is telling you, not to what she is saying.

I also agree with Father Bill. Listen between the words. I'm sure she'll be okay with it, but it is her night.

Hi Chewes .. if its any help ... the Olympic Torch passed our cottage within 50yds a few weeks ago, and there was a good crowd to watch and support it going by. I was in my Cilt and I can assure you that my cilt was of no significance and attention at all.
