That is just a marker for the shipping channel but as it turns out it isn't very far from the border line. The shipping channel crosses the river from the U.S. side to the Canadian side from your right to your left on a diagonal.

Crash, I am curious. I see a buoy in the middle of the river. Is that the demarcation line between the USA and Canada?
