Just ordered a Stillwaters BlackWatch kilt.
Just decided to buy one of Stillwater Kilts' economy kilts in the BlackWatch tartan. For the price I'm hoping it will be a nice "knock around". Has anyone else bought one of these just for a grin and what not? And what did you think of it? I'm an aspiring kiltmaker (working on #10 at the workbench) so what did you think of craftsmanship, if your with the company what do you think in general! Jaded employees even welcome! Lol

While I have not experienced Stillwaters economy model, I do have one of the heavyweights and love it.
I've found that most relationships work best when no one wears pants.

Here is a review I gave on the Economy Wool Black Watch from Stillwater Kilts. You will see others have joined in with thoughts and opinions as well. I own two of them, one for camping and hiking and one for nice wear. They are nice kilts at a value price but as stated in the review they are not a "Tank". You will get a lot of good wear from this kilt.

I have two of them and love them. The only thing I would recomend is sew down the pleats in the back and add some belt loops.

I guess my question would be did you get the Economy acrylic kilt or the Economy wool Black Watch? There will be a big difference in what you have.

I do like to strengthen my pleats so I don't have to iron as often, thanks for the tip Matty Ross

I have the wool version, and it's sold constructions from what my novice understanding knows. The sew down pleats, the weight and general look makes it fine kilt in my opinion. I know that the acrylic they use is very good, have a Thrifty. I'm hoping to get a heavy weight in a few months.

I bought an Economy Acrylic when we started our Pipe Band here at my FD. I wore it to about 10 or so different functions. It held up very well for what I paid. The apron has some snags and pilling from my drum carrier and sporran, and the rest of it got a bit fuzzy just because it is acrylic, but all in all it looks fine still. I just replaced it with a wool kilt from another vendor. I do however see a Stillwater Heavyweight in my future...Can't beat their service.

Mine did come with belt loops but I am wondering what you say by "sew down the pleats."

Glen, what I took from Matty's post was to sew the length of the pleat edge so they stay pleat like! Lol
