Personal or tweaked Tartan?
Two questions?
Have you had a personal Tartan made or tweaked the colors?
The Tartan I would like to have made (when money allows), is the MacLean. The look Im looking for is similar to the Blackwatch weathered. "Weathered" to that extent, the green would become brown. What color would red then become? Blue would become grey, what about the yellow?
thinkin thinkin now wonder I cant sleep

In the MacRae weathered that the Grandfather Mountain Highlanders wear, the red stripe becomes an orange-ish scarlet (Chinese red), but that would be pretty ugly where there is such a large red field. The MacLean of Duart weathered from Lochcarron is a just a lighter red.

And here is the same from Dagliesh, just a bit different than the Lochcarron colors. Both are nice, in my opinion.

I'm a little confused by the original question in the thread, though, because this would not be a special personal tartan or unusual color variance, simply the MacLean tartan in weathered/reproduction colors.

The questions are, what would the tartan look like if it was weathered until the green became a brown tone? What color would the red become?

Knotty,
The next time you brave the wilds of the big city why don't you stop into the kilt shop. We can pull out the swatch books and look at yarn samples.
Heck, I'll even buy you a cup of coffee.

I'm not sure that I understand your question...In the weathered/reproduction color scheme green becomes brown and red becomes a faded cranberry red. But as Matt pointed out, these tartans are readily available already, not as a special weave.

In the pictures of the weathered (Lochcarron) and reproduction (Dalgliesh) samples that were shown, the green has become brown, and you can see the shade used for red.
