    Thumbs down Higgins Value Kilt

I've bought many items from J. Higgins and was pleased each time with the product and service, which prompted me to order their 'Value Kilt.' Sorry to say, it was not to my liking. I should have sent it back, but after doctoring with it, well, it was now mine.

I had talked to them about a Stewart Navy, PV material. By the way, this was suppose to be a kilt made to my measurements. After giving my measurements, they said that they had one already made in my size. Wow, I thought that was pretty amazing. And it was. Too amazing, if you know what I mean. Upon receiving it, it was not quite my size. I suspect that they doctored an existing kilt to try and make it my size. It didn't work!!

The material is Marton Mills PV, which is nice, and the kilt looked more traditional than, say, a casual kilt from Rocky. Where as Rocky's causal has Velcro closures, the Higgins has three buckles, which are pretty decent. But the quality of construction seems a bit shoddy...the hem stitching, along with the other stitching, is quite visible. On the USA kilt, the stitching does not draw attention to the eye. The kilt that was 'suppose' to be to my waist size was NOT my size; fitting a tad big, so I punched some holes in the straps to tighten it up. Big mistake, cause it helped minimally, and now I was stuck with it. Then I moved the buckles and it helped a bit more, but the kilt is still ill-fitting. I wear it, now, as a "junk" kilt when I'm not wanting to wear a more expensive tank.

Maybe other members have had luck with the Higgins Value Kilt, but this one was definitely a disappointment. My suggestion...go with USA Casual or Semi-Trad. Good luck!

I just ordered a set of hose from them. Though not a kilt I will see what the service and quality is like and post about it.

I bought a jacket and waistcoat from them, and thought that the service was exemplary. In fact, I'm glad you reminded me of them...I'm in the market for a specific sporran and I should check to see if they carry it.
