    Islandbagpipe GT Kilt Roll

A few days ago I found a Kilt roll at Islandbagpipe. The price is $28.

    http://www.islandbagpipe.com/store/p...roducts_id=611

Anyone have experience with this product?
Or have an opinion about its usefulness or quality?
    Worth the price?
Or just use a less expensive method to roll your kilt for travel?

    Thanks,

    David

Hi David, I don't have any experience with that particular kilt roll. I have one from the kilter co., which I use when I travel it keeps the kilt nice and goes into a soft tube the zips with a sholder strap very handy. It all depends on how you are going to travel and how formal the events you are going to. If you are travelling mostly in a casual way then it would be great, if you are gotin to be travelling and need to pack jackets and the like then some sort of garmet bag would be better so that you can pack kilt, jackets, sporrans and your other accoutrements. As a side note I own some items from gaelic themes GT and have been quite happy with them.

    David,
Thanks for the reply. I've only recently acquired a couple of kilts and very much only at the casual phase of wearing the kilt. Still in the anxious phase of public kilt wear too. It appears this kilt roll would suit my present requirement.

Strikes me as odd they don't say what material it is made from or what the size is....that always gives me cause for concern when the merchant's attitude is "It'll work, you don't need to know." What's so special about it? They don't say. Hard to know whether or not to buy one without knowing what its made, what size it is, how its supposed to be used, and what the benefit of using it is.

Many just use their lady's old panty hose legs to hold a kilt roll.

I use Order of the Gael hangers to hang my hand sewn wool kilts and my leather kilts. Use big box store plastic hangers with extra clips to hang my Utilikilts and PV kilts. Fold them in quarters when traveling and packing them in a suitcase.

    RK,
I quite agree, they ought to tell your these things. otoh - places I found that did provide more information, also charged more.

    $41.60 http://thistleofblantyre.co.uk/index...products_id=35
However, these guys offer a larger variety and some description of different models, in nylon, polyester, etc,

Others also provided little information and charged even more
    $65 http://www.scottishtradingcompany.co...roducts_id=484

In the end if not traveling often, and i don't anticipate traveling very often where I woud take a kilt. Perhaps a small, thin, towel and some discarded hose is the way to go. As illustrated here

    Thanks for the reply,

Look like different products...one just rolls - your first link - and the Scottish Trading Company link seems to have a shoulder strap. First one rolls with the kilt the second rolls around the kilt?

Sorry. Yes that is the point I was attempting to make. The more features of the individual product, the more likely they are to list the materials it is made from. Polyester or nylon seems to be the material of choice where it is listed. I think there is no need for more exotic materials like dyneema. And none I viewed looked like cotton duck or similar material.

otoh - dig a bit more and you can find exceptions. I found this second type of Gaelic Themes kilt roll - that also has a shoulder strap, and it's $4 less expensive than that first one. Again GT fails to list the materials, so maybe its just a habit of this one company.

Since I often do weekend trips with my gear in a backpack, on second thought, maybe a kilt roll with a shoulder strap would have some advantage for me over a soft roll type that packs inside a bag. Actually, even when I make more extended trips I do not use rigid bags. I switched to Rick Steves convertible carry on bag 7 years ago and haven't wanted anything else. All the RS products I have tried have been terrific.
