I was also a little bitter that Legolas and Galadriel are making appearances in the movie when they are nowhere to be found in the book (even though the elvenking of Mirkwood is Thranduil which is Legolas' dad so its possible he'd be hanging out there) until I realized that now I have someone I can dress up as when I go see the movie. lol. There are literally NO female characters in the entire Hobbit book. None. So I thought I was screwed dressing up as some dwarf.

Jackson makes beautiful movies so I cut him some slack on a lot of the character stuff but I was really honestly ticked about the trilogy thing. It's just unnecessary.

I don't know why directors always have to mess up a favorite book when turning it into a movie, but they almost always do. I read a script for a movie of one of my favorite Heinlein books "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" I was so glad it was turned down.

Waitpersons? Sounds like that odd word they use in the US for municipal councillors: councilman. Councillor is at least gender-neutral. Do you have female councilmen, or councilwomen?
I loathe the word waitron, but it is seen as the politically correct term to use in South Africa.

Meggers, it seems that you have missed out on Tom Bombadil, an important character in both The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, who was left out of the LoTR trilogy. I imagine that part of the Hobbit trilogy will include at least some of Tom’s adventures, including his wooing of the lovely Goldberry (a female character, since you crave one).
Including Bombadil alone required extending the movie of The Hobbit, and since the LoTR trilogy left out other aspects, too, I imagine the new movie will fill in the gaps.
At any rate, I am looking forward to seeing it.
Regards,
Mike

As you probably know, the movie originally was to be made in two parts, but at the last minute it was decided that it would be a trilogy. When Jackson was asked why, he responded "to make more money". At least he was honest, or being funny, or both. In any case I believe the second film is due out a year after the first, and the third six months after the second. But, that's hearsay, so don't bet on it.
