Well, Adam, I am thrilled to know that you have also placed an order for a kilt in your clan tartan (I hope to be wearing one in my clan tartan by Christmas).
I originally gave serious consideration to ordering a kilt in denim, but I am glad I didn’t. A tartan kilt is so much smarter, even if my first one was in PV and the second in medium-weight wool.
    Regards,
    Mike

Friday - “Adam go down to your local Joann Fabrics, 10368 Festival Ln, and check about sewing classes. If I can do it at 63, it can't be that hard.

I was in one Joann's looking at plaid fabric and the sales lady asked me, a male, if I sewed or was it for my wife. I told her it was for me and my wife doesn't sew. I told the sales lady that I was sewing a kilt. She said that she used to sew kilts and we talked for a while on the subject.

    Welcome to the addiction.”

Thanks for the suggestion Friday. Funny you should mention Joann’s Fabrics. My mom works at that location. She might even have been the lady who you spoke with. Have to see what I can arrange.

Can’t wait, but it’s going to be a few weeks till it gets here. I’ll probably get it by mid October and at the latest in time for Halloween. Wondering what kind of reception it’ll get on the DC Metro; in four years of commuting I’ve never seen another kilt down there.

When did you place your order? Where are you getting your kilt (kilt maker, self-made)?

Status Update - Good news, I just got word that my denim kilt has shipped! I can get some more time in kilted before my clan tartan arrives.

Since you ask, Adam, I have some money coming my way in the near future. My wife has earmarked it for a house-related project, but there should be enough left over for the kilt. I am getting a little impatient about having the money in my account so that I can twist her arm
I will be ordering a Lochcarron Strome from Scotweb.
    Regards,
    Mike

Now it's September 12th and I am still waiting. At this rate my Denim kilt will probably arrive while I am in Scotland and the Elliot kilt will arrive early while I am in Wales just to spite me. Aaaaarg! "Nyah, Nyah, we're waiting on your porch and you can't get us." I can just picture how they will toss their twilled taunts at me as I toss and turn across the tempestuous sea in Telluria Scotia.

Well looks like you will have something to look forward to upon return from Scotia and Wales. Will you be doing a tour or just visiting on your own? Our trip this past May was a CIE tour. We have another planned for April which takes in England, Southern Scotland and Wales.

Adam I live about 2.5 hours north of the Joann's at Festival Ln., don't think I have ever been into that store. The Joann's where I met the kilt maker is in Chambersburg. PA.

Making a contemporary kilt is a significant challenge, the first time. If you make an X-Kilt, figure on two hours to figure out the machine and how to use it (maybe..) and then about thirteen hours to actually make the kilt. The second one will take you ten, and the third one, about 8. While I don't recommend denim for a self-made kilt there are variations on "denim"...like the indigo twill hemp/polyester blend that work really well. It could be that Union Kilts has figured out a way to make a really nice denim kilt.

As for a tartan kilt being SO much "smarter" than a denim kilt...well, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just think that it would be good if people stated their opinions as opinions, rather than facts. Personally, I've seen some denim ... and lots of other casual, or contemporary kilts that I thought looked fantastic.

    My denim UnionKilt has arrived!
Pictures tomorrow if possible since it is very wrinkled and needs a wash and press. Also I am in a frenzy getting ready for travel to Scotland this Friday.

So until I get piccs posted this didn't happen.

I'll see what I can do. 4 years and I have never used the camera on this laptop, tonight sounds opportune.
