Again, thank you all very much.

I'm going to try my hand at (rustic) Kilt pins. By "Rustic" , I mean made of materials that would have been used by the average Highlander. Those made from precious /semi-precious metals and stones are very nice, but in my thoughts would have been available only to the wealthiest, who could afford them. Or to the Clans with very skilled artisans, as well as the metal and stones available to produce them.

Or am I incorrect in my thinking?

Also, I am interested in finding example photos of authentic, original and period Sgain Dubhs and Kilt pins. Does anyone know of a website or books that would show them? Internet searches have found very few examples. I'm very intent on getting the "flavor" of the originals in the pieces I make. Thanks!!

"The Scottish Dirk (Historical Arms Series No. 26)" book by James D. Forman avialable from

    http://www.scottishsword.com/BooksPrints.htm

Small pamphlet but with lots of info and a variety of pics.

Also some info in "Scottish Arms and Armour (Shire Collections)" by Fergus Cannan available through Amazon, but I picked up a new copy at my local Half Price books.

Beautiful work! I especially like the way you shaped that antler to fade from the rough to a smooth finish Good on ya!
BTW.. what did you use as a medium for that face on the end? Is that some kind of resin?

It's a piece of Asian Water Buffalo horn. I carved it with a Dremel tool and jeweler's files.

    Thanks!!
