    Sorry to resurrect this thread, but it just dawned on me that the item in the photo above bears a striking resemblance to this one below, also in an eBay auction. I've seen copies of this print pop up regularly on eBay when searching for sporrans. I can never find a decent description, but it seems to have something to do with a sporran or belt purse and Sir Walter Scott.

    Any chance that it could actually be a belt-suspended sporran as worn with a kilt? Or would this still just be a ladies' purse that she might hang from her belt?

    I saw that, it's hilarious. I see purses sold as vintage sporrans fairly regularly. And women's skirts sold as men's kilts.

    Amazing how often ordinary civilian items are listed as "military" and usually "officer's" items. And vintage photos showing civilians, and even the corny "play dress-up" photos, so often listed as military officers. There's one of these on Ebay now.

    With Ebay you have to very careful what you buy. Most sellers are honest. There are some real bad people on Ebay that lie about their listings. I do my homework when buying anything from Ebay,
