    I'm imagining some canny chap, back in the day, who inherited three sporrans. They were all in rough shape, not one of them were wearable, so he cobbled together...

    Well we have had Frankenpipes for years, why not Frankensporrans?

    (Amongst some pipers Frankenpipes refers to mashup sets, sets of pipes made up from bits from two or more old sets. The set of Uilleann pipes I played for 20-odd years had four different makers represented in it various parts.)

    I've done a lot of cantle-switching myself, and currently I switch the same vintage cantle from a goathair sporran (for ordinary use) to a long horsehair sporran (for military-style Full Dress).
