I tried one Piers Anthony book and put it down somewhere after a few pages. I wonder where it went.

When I started to read the Terry Pratchett books not only did I not put them down but people had to go out to buy dinner if the end of the book had not happened even at the speed I read.

They are not intellectually challenging, but the concepts and plots are amusing - they are the only books which have made me laugh aloud for quite a while now.

"Oook" is one comment used by of the librarian of the Unseen University of Ankh Morpork who has care of the magical books, and so believes that the proper place for any book is on the correct shelf of the right rack. He was a wizard, but a magical incident turned him into an orang-outang and he has since resisted all attempts to return him to his former self.

The other comment is "Eeek". Often the result of someone removing one of the books from the library shelves, which have a copper strip along the front to conduct the magic away - particularly if it should be about dragons.

IMO, TP is much funnier and wittier than Piers Anthony. His early books soon surpassed Douglas Adams' as being laugh-out-loud-funniest and plot-wise there was always no comparison.

If you like pure parody and have a firm knowledge of class SF/Fantasy then Colour of Magic is a great place to start. Still my favorite after all these years.
Wyrd Sisters is a good start for the Witches series.

I just finished Wyrd Sisters this afternoon and am looking forward to starting Pyramids - the source of the Pterry nickname.

Ah - mathematical camels and inverted pyramids. Joy!

Having finished all the kid-ish books with my son, I started on the main series.
Wyrd Sisters- Witches Abroad- Lords and Ladies - Carpe Jugulum (best!) - Equal Rites
    Pyramids
    Guards Guards

Just started Reaper Man. I think we started Mort last year but havent found it since we moved house.

Starting the girl on the Wee Free Men. I do a cracking bunch of different Glasgow and Highland accents for the wee scunners, even if I do say so myself.
‘Ach, cheepitty-cheep! Fluttery-flutter! I certainly hope dere’s no’ a pussycat aroound! Ach, dearie me!’ it yelled.

Listening to them on audiobooks; finished Wyrd Sisters last week, and loaded Pyramids on my Shuffle, but so busy at home during some time off it may be next week before I can start listening during my commute to/from work...
