I've got to agree with Bubba. I used to ski/snowboard a lot before I hurt my knee. If it's your first time, expect to spend equal time between standing on skis and sitting on your butt in snow. Unless you're snowboarding, and then the ratio is about 20% standing to 80% butt/knee time. Brrrr! I suggest waterproof, insulated ski trousers for your first few times.
If you're just going to be hanging out in the lodge, then by all means wear your kilt while you're curled up next to the fire.
