    Dale,

Your photo has actually answered a question I was going to pose to the group, about 5-button bias-cut tartan waistcoats, and whether The Rabble might consider them too "matchy-matchy", for wear with a kilt. I had in mind a look just as you've demonstrated in the pic (though I lack a sporran as nice as yours.) I really like the look. I would think it would look nice with a pair of dress slacks, as well.

Matt, thanks a lot -- and I'm delighted to hear your kids are training!

With dress slacks, definitely. I can't wear a kilt at work, but on Tartan Day this year I wore the same waistcoat with a Harris Tweed sport coat and a Douglas Grey tartan tie:

Wearing a bias cut tartan waistcoat with a kilt in the same tartan is very traditional and always splendid looking, in my opinion! Go for it!

My father doesn't kilt due to his "middle girth" (14 DEC 2012 - ca'nae wait!). But, he wears his tartan vest with slacks and sport coat regulary. Always complimented, particularly by ex-pat matrons.

I never thought I would see the day where a guy in a kilt, with a tartan waistcoat, and a tattersall shirt would look tame compared to the guy next to him. Dale, your sensei is BIG pimpin'! Nice

What REALLY does it is that he has that jacket tucked into his pants.

He just turned 82 by Japanese reckoning. And throughout the 3 days of the "Daikomyosai" intensive international training seminar he was constantly doing stuff that just had my jaw dropping to the floor.

After 29 years of training under his direction.

Is Japanese reckoning different somehow in terms of aging? Your phrasing is curious so I just had to ask.

Yes it is. The older counting system (they use ours as well) in Japan has one's life beginning at the presumed time of conception and the first "year" is not a full year, so you're born at "one year".
