Are we still here?
Good morning, everyone! Perhaps the power flicker I experienced late last evening was everyone but me leaving, I'll have to wait for daylight to find out, LOL! In any case, there is some wine in the fridge that will want drinking.
Happy day after the end of the world!

Now that even the eastern side of the International Date Line (Midway, Samoa) has passed the 12/21 mark, I think we can safely say the (mis-)interpretation of the Mayan calendar had it wrong. (According to what I've read, the Mayan calendar system has several cycles. Yesterday was just the end of a major cycle before starting the next major cycle.)
Interesting about your power flicker. When I got home from work yesterday morning, I found my power had been out for about four hours while I was at work. (Got home shortly after 4AM, the clock on the stove - analog, btw - read 12:36.)

Raises hand. Still here on the eastern seaboard.
Interesting that (here) yesterday began with a hellacious storm passing through about 3:00 AM - and ended last night with high winds (gusting to 40+ MPH) about 10:00 PM. The daylight portion was a cool but clear, typical December day - that required me to take in some Christmas spirits (Maker's Mark, specifically).

In western North Carolina, we experienced mostly high wind, except in the high mountains. Being a retired electrician, I figured the power flicker was the result of a nearby area losing theirs (the timing was about right). They are still out, according to the outage map.
Looks to be sunshiny, some wind, and warmer today.

I admit I was a bit alarmed when I saw the weather forecast on the Evening News

Could have used a bit of that fire and brimstone here in Minnesota yesterday. Wind Chill was around zero Farenheit. But we made it through the day, and I celebrated our survival with a wee bit of Highland Park last evening. (If I'd really been worried, I would have finished the bottle the night before. No sense letting good scotch go to waste.)
Damn, I guess that means I have to go back to work on Monday.

Am I living in a post apocalyptic America? Wow! I'm one of the survivors! The lines for gasoline and bottled water aren't nearly as long as I'd imagined.

didn't need my towel, so everything is fine because I wasn't forced to listen to Vogon poetry
