That came out great, very impressive! And too large is WAY easier to fix than too small LOL

No one is going to mistake that for anything other than a USMC Dress Blue kilt! Very well done!

Great idea and execution. Do we get pictures of the kilt as altered? I'm glad to see school hasn't taken you away from
    kiltmaking.

Here is the finished and altered kilt. My mom and I tried to make a sporran, but it proved very difficult and my mom said she would rather see dad wearing a leather marine corps sporran, but I like it.

Dad wanted a buckle to help keep it closed on the fell line

Mom suggested using an eyelet to keep the apron closed and straight on the top since we didn't have any Velcro available and we wanted something that wouldn't wear out over a period of time.

Here it is on my dad, though without the finishing touches, but has been altered to help it fit better. (dad was at work when I took the pictures of the rest of the finishing touches)

there you have it He's planning on getting a leather marine corps sporran and wearing it to my little sister's graduation at Parris Island March 15, just in time for the 17th ;)

A nice looking kilt and it certainly does say "marine Corp." However, I do agree with your mother about the sporran. The one you made is a little too "cutesy" for my taste and detracts from the seriousness of the kilt. The leather sporran will look much better.
