Never too old to start! - and yes, spectators are welcome, but why not try your hand at an X-Kilt? The manual is right here for download, and you can just go to JoAnne's and buy some solid-color cotton/polyester twill, or some camouflage and bang out a knockaround kilt. You also could scope out ebay for some budget wool or wool blend tartan. While you couldn't really get through a handsewn knife pleat kilt in one day, you can get pretty close to "done" with a super-simple box pleat, if it had only about 5-6-7 pleats.

I will be bringing down two sewing machines and a crummy iron and an ironing board. I'll need one of the machines myself, but the other one is available for someone else to use.

I need a head-count, so that we can figure out a per-person contribution to reimburse Panache and the F_H.C.A.G. for the cost of the hall. This is the same hall that the Nor Cal Rabble uses for it's Burns Night Supper, which is two weeks after the Make a Kilt Day.

HEAD COUNT, please! I will watch this thread for commitments until Christmas Day. After that, invitations are closed.

Would you mind if my wife (Judith) and I (Merv) come along to your make-a-kilt day? We're kilt wearers and keen costumers - we have our own sewing machine(s). Where-abouts is this going to take place, we live in Saratoga but haven't been to any Nor Cal Rabble events before.

Brittunculus, of course you can come! I just need a *commitment* from people so that we can come up with a small $ from each of us to give to Panache to cover the cost of the hall. I'm sure it will be <$10/person.

I hope you bring materials and make something! The event is in Scotts Valley.

Alan H, we're prepared to commit to come along and meet the rabble. We had already planned to make an X-Kilt, so have the fabric. We'll also bring a machine plus some supplies. Just let me know where the venue is - though we might be a bit late, 9am on Sunday is a bit of a stretch.

Brittunculus, I have some very nice Black Watch wool "tartan"....it's not, technically a tartan, as it's not a twill, and it's not technically Black Watch as it's not the right pattern....and the sett is really too small to make a kilt out of, BUT......I have three yards of it, and a yard would make someone a really nice plaid waistcoat. *AHEM* It's really nice wool, probably Pendleton, that was given to me. I'm saving out a yard for my own waistcoat, but you can have one if youll work on it at the party!

Including Merv and Judith, we now have eight sewers.....eight kilts (or other items, Scooby wants to work on a skunk sporran) will be assembled. Tentatively, two more will let me know in the next couple of days.

    mixelito24???? Hmm? Hmmm? Mr. Plaid?

Let me know if you want to come by the 26th..

    PS, I'm providing lunch

    Hi Alan,

I have been informed we are holding middle daughter's Birthday dinner on the 6th...I appreciate the offer of help on building a kilt. Please keep me in mind on any other Nor-Cal events.

    Have fun...

    Thanks

    Frank

OK, invitations, or whatever we want to call them, are now closed for the "Make-a-Kilt Day'.
