Will post another winter piping picture (looking at you, OC Richard and Ogden Piper.) This is from last winter up at the Nordic Skiing Park at Mt. Spokane. I was asked to pipe at a kid's x-country ski event. Fine weather: 20 degrees F and a 20 mph wind. The kilt is a 13 oz. trad by Rocky at USA Kilts. Fun time had by all.

How do you get the pipes working in that cold? I can't imagine.

    Dear kilted friends,

Isn't it too cold on the face running around in the freezing snow?

Here is one taken in SW Michigan last winter (2011).

I will admit that this is a posed picture. I don't make a habit of using a snowblower in a kilt.
I sent it to some friends in Germany, where they were having a lot of snow at the time.

It was cold (8 deg. F) but no wind and bright sun. I could have used a shovel, but the snow blower was more fun.

Here's my very own personal self a few years ago:

The kilt is a Newsome MacDougall box-pleat, the cape is a VMac, and the walking stick is a sassafrass sapling.

    Pipes in the Cold

    OC Richard:

The pipes weren' too balky--it was the fingers that didn't want to get working. Hence the fingerless gloves. Helped a little. The pipes were a matter of getting some breath through them and getting all the reeds happy (or equally unhappy) together. My worry was the cold splitting a drone section. That didn't happen with gradual warm-up and cool down. Should have borrowed my son's Polypenco pipes, instead of using my Athertons. Good thing I didn't learn a hard lesson.

Out playing with my dog. Norwegian Centennial tartan, -7 Celsius (19,4 Fahrenheit)
Nice and warm except for my hands. Throwing snowballs without gloves is cold...

Great shot Oddern! Nice tartan! Would they be Norway spruce behind you?
