I think we have talked about this before but my GGreat Uncle rode with Early during the D.C. raid. His cavalry regt., was selected to cover the retreat and his company lead the way driving off the Union pursuit. He was however shot in the head and sent to Elmira NY POW camp where he died of fever. Its a small world!

My GG Grandfather was defending one of the many forts around D.C. - forget which one, most are long gone now.

136th Ohio Infantry. At Ft Ellsworth and Ft Williams. I can't find either. They did face Early.
