At first I was bugged by the use of the word 'skirt' to describe what I am wearing. Since, technically, a kilt IS a skirt, the useage is correct. Despite how the person using it to describe my kilt might *mean* for me to take it, and sometimes it actually is meant as a compliment, I have accepted it.
What I tend to say when confronted with the word 'skirt' is to respond along the line," While technically what I am wearing is a skirt, more specifically it happens to be a kilt." If I am tired or not in the mood to spar, I simply say, "Thanks!"
