I see lots of kilts, mostly at Lodge and civic events, Scottish games, etc., sometimes on the way to or from those. Have yet to see one "in the wild" as they're generally for special occasions, although not necessarily so, I'm sure. I've yet to see anything in terms of a camouflage, sport kilt, or anything less traditional except on display and at a kilt night type events.
I've never had a negative comment either, and few comments in general. My sense is that there are really a lot around, but reserved for the occasions considered most appropriate.
