I have two on the upper arm that are not seen when kilted, however I do have a design for my next one. My dad had a design drawn with a claymore and on either side the two clan badges of our family (MacDonald from his mother and Riddell from his father).
I have two large tats - a back piece and a chest piece. Both covered normally due to RCN regulations. The chest piece has an image of an ancient Irish elk combined with a Celtic sword and triskells as well as my family slogan. The back piece has a dragonfly encircled by a celtic knot. Both have clan and religious meaning for me. The only time you can see them when I am kilted is when I do what my wife calls my Irish Warrior thing - kilt and hose and a bare torso - when I am working in the yard. I am not sure if she says that with approval or forbearance....
