... he said modestly. If I recall correctly, mine had about 8800 stitches (in size large), so that may give would-be knitters an idea of the scope of the project. The knitting is not difficult at all.

Oof, if I thought about a project in terms of individual stitches I'd never begin anything! I usually think of a project in stages; cast on, knit the band, do the increase row, knit the crown rows, knit the decrease rows. Broken down like that the steps are manageable, and gives you manageable goals; "just 5 more rounds until I can start decreasing!"

    That's bloody impressive work. Dang.

Ever thought of becoming a cottage industry of one?

Thanks everyone! AJBryant, I am definitely thinking about it; I already have an accidental cottage industry of one making and selling bow ties. I don't think I'm quite there with the hats yet, I need to get more consistent and clean with the finishing steps; for the amount I would need to charge to make it worth my time, people would rightly expect good fit & finish.

Add me to the "Very Nice" catagory. Did you ever think when you started you would end up with a collection? A mighty fine collection at that.

I'll tell you, I'd take your UN-"more consistent and clean with the finishing steps" than any dozen other mass-produced, indistinguishable from the crowd tat.
