Many patterns bear the name Stewart or Stuart, few indisputably ancient. The most distinctive is Old Stewart. This is quite unlike any other tartan; it is subdued in colour but rich in effect. It belongs rather to the Stewarts of the Western Highlands, but was early accepted as the Clan Stewart tartan.

I have Stewart ancestors but I've never owned a Stewart kilt. That tartan the Prince is wearing is amazing. Yet another kilt to put on the Jones List.
HRH Prince Charles is a master at working crowds and rightly so, he's been doing it for such a long time! I agree, the Stewart Old Sett is amazing indeed! I have seen it several times before, but I still can't get over how beautiful it is. In my opinion, the sett is perfect and the colours are absolutely gorgeous. You know, if I ever decided to step outside of the traditional realm of wearing only Macpherson (or Chattan) tartans, a kilt in the Stewart Old Sett colours and sett size, just as HRH wears, would be my first and only choice! I am in love with that tartan.

A few more of HRH the Duke of Rothesay wearing the Stewart Old Sett in the ancient hue:

    Cheers,
