I wear both modern and traditional and mostly get compliments. Of course there are those who have been living under a rock and may stare or even make a rude comment, but you can find that anywhere. Generally, Colorado seems tolerant, at least away from the few rednecks one could encounter.

I live in Alamosa. Have worn my kilt out and about many times. Most folks don't even seem to notice and those that do, always respond very positively. Always kinda fun to see what comments are usually made, so I have my answers at the ready:

    1. Nope, I'm not Scottish, but my ancestors were.

    2. Nope, I don't play the bagpipes and my neighbors appreciate that.

    3. Yup, I've eaten haggis and, yup, I like it.

    4. Only my wife knows for sure. (the underwear question)

    5. Yup, I'm wearing my kilt like a real Scottsman, pleats in the back.

And, I really do say Yup and nope.

Hey!! I forgot about that picture. Thanks for the flashback, Sensei! You look like you're about to throw me... Anyways, to answer the question of the original poster, Colorado is very kilt friendly overall. There is the occasional moron, but you have those everywhere. When you get here, you should look up a few of us!

I just went back to where I was raised in South Florida from South California for 10 days to spend with family. I flew both ways kilted. I find the generally more earthy disposition of SoCal allot more tolerant than SoFla. SoFla seems to be a bit more in your face with the money/OC and other communities in SoCal are the exception. I lived all over; and on this trip visited all the old stomping grounds. It was interesting to go to Miami and see the reception in a predominately Spanish speaking (Latin American) international city. I did get allot of machismo "look at the odd ball" looks. But there was indeed allot of positives too; mostly from the women.

Have been all over Colorado and would expect a more favorable reception there.

I've ran into the same sort of "macho" cultural attitude among our immigrant population here. They expect everyone to put up with Cinco de Mayo, so loose the attitude toward other cultures.

I have worn my kilt throughout the mountain towns of Buena Vista, Salida, Crested Butte, Glenwood Springs, etc. Only good vibes were sent in my direction.
My father in law was pretty shocked to see how many admiring lassies I attracted while we were both standing on a corner and waiting for our wives to come out of one of the shops.

However, I was raised in the rural west.

I go all around Denver while Kilted, no problems at all. I do visit around to other places in the state and find no difficulties or problems.

I too was at the festival at Highlands Ranch the year that Dale was there and Nighthawk told me that he meant up with him, but alas I could not find you, but hey that is the way it is.

So with my two cents tossed in I would say come on in the Kilting is mighty fine here.

I'm always at the Colorado Scottish Festival in Highlands Ranch and mostly at the MacLea (Livingstone) tent. Stop by and have a wee nip. I've never had any problems when I've been out and about kilted up.
