Yes, very much faster since they don't have to detach & reattach any muscle: The incision is just to expose the muscles so they can work between them. You still come out of it feeling like you just got nailed in the upper thigh by either a good Muay Thai fighter or a bad mule, but with physical therapy things go quickly from there. (And the restrictions on certain movements to avoid post-operative dislocation don't last as long, for the same reason: It's not that the artificial joint is inherently a lot more prone to dislocation, but that the muscles holding it in place need to regain their tone and strength.)

Again, I'm delighted things went well for Joan, and I'm looking forward to pics of the kilt!!
