New Kilt, Old Pin. 1.
Well it all happened in about February of 2012, two wedding invitations, for the next year from two of my sons and a proposed visit from a couple of very important family friends in 2013. So it was decided that by "the committee" that Jock needed to sharpen up his attire a tad------I thought it was perfectly alright, there we go! So a new kilt was discussed, frankly I really could not see the need, but I know when to give way when outnumbered! So decision time, tartan? Yes that bit was easy. Hue? Well I must admit that I have always fancied the weathered colours, but even I could see that it was a tad drab for weddings so modern was the only option, or was it?
So how about Wilson's colours? A bit like modern colours, but to my eyes, more distinct and sharper colours? Special weave, maybe? If we are doing that, how about getting something that I have always wanted, a larger sett? What to do?
So about at the end of March 2012 in comes Paul Henry! Paul listens to my ideas asks a few questions and answers the two main questions, "can he do it"? And, "will he make the the kilt for me"? Yes, was the answer to both! So to cut a fairly short story shorter, we decided on the tartan , colours, sett size, buckles,no belt loops, pleats, pleating to the sett, my measurements, cloth weight, how many acres of cloth to order(9 yds), who was going to weave the cloth and of course the price. Paul is a charming fellow who is obviousely well at ease in doing what he does, suggestions made, ideas thought about, answers given and cloth ordered, no big deal, but he also made me feel that my order was the most important thing in his order book at that moment, which is a nice feeling to have and is well in the spirit of bespoke tailoring that I remember fondly.
Dalgliesh, ahead of time produced the cloth, 15 oz, 10.5 inch sett, Wilsons colours, MacLeod of Harris tartan and it was even better than even this non artistic simpleton hoped for! The colours are superb, sett size just as I imagined.

More to come.

I'm sure Paul will see you right, he did a beautiful job on my new kilt, and I'm looking forward to the photos of your new creation.
Cheers,
Cameron

Oh how photobucket annoys!
Anyway, in due course the kilt arrived in all its glory last October.

Photos are coming! If B------ photobucket will let me!

The Pleats.

The cloth is wonderful, the colours are just what I wanted, but some fine tuning was required and sadly the kilt had to be returned. Not a problem really, as with any bespoke garment some fine tuning is almost always to be expected and normally a couple of fittings at a traditional tailors would have solved that, but internet tailoring does not allow for this. Paul worked his magic and all is well.
More to come.

Well, there I was with my brand spanking, super, dooper, new kilt to hand, feeling rather embarrassed about it all. It is almost bad form to admit to having something new-----a very British failing , I am afraid-----so how can I tone this feeling down? Easy! My father's kilt pin! For those that don't know the story, it was lost some sixty years ago when my father was out on the moor grouse shooting and it was found a couple of years ago in a grouse butt that was being repaired, tarnished and peat stained with a broken clasp. It was repaired, cleaned and presented to me, by the chaps that found it! So what better for my new kilt and my father's Grand Sons weddings? Perfect!
The "old" pin and new kilt!

More to come. Later.

What a gorgeous kilt and great story behind the pin (I remember when you first posted about it). Wear it in good health and best wishes to the assorted progeny!
[insert snarky comment about new Photobucket being solely to blame for the extended delay in posting photos -- I don't much like the new site, either!]

Jock,
Both kilt and pin look stunning. So much to consider when getting a bespoke kilt (as I am discovering myself!). Looks like you nailed it though!
I was going for a Kyleism, but how about a Jockism instead?
Well done laddie!
Steve.
