    Suspecting no evil....

    Hi guys,

something really frightening happened to me today...
I went to the kilt shop which is about an hour away from my place to buy a Macpherson cap badge, to order a Robert Mackie bonnet, try on several jackets and chat a bit with the very nice staff...the owner's wife in this case.

I often thought of having a practice chanter just to try, so I bought one today. Not a very special one but now it seems to be a VERY special one...

After having tried to come along with it for a while I found myself in front of the computer some time later searching for Bagpipes and their prices.
(Don't know why and how I got there)
AND now I know I have a very well reputated bagpipe school just round my corner...
I SWEAR I SUSPECTED NO EVIL....
Hope my neighbours will still love me if a Rrreal Grreat Highland Bagpipe should move in...

Could anybody help me pleeeease.....Maybe it is not to late yet.

Congrats! You're in for a wild ride, but great satisfaction. Your neighbors have a good 6-9 months before you have to worry about the neighbors getting violent.

Nope, too late. You now have the practice chanter and you're doing internet searches for bagpipe prices. The bug has bit.

Be sure you do find an instructor for some face-to-face instruction, at least once a month, if not more often. Once you get a full set and start learning how to set things up, etc., hands-on instruction is definitely needed until you get things set up to your liking/ability.

Check out the 'So You Want to Play the Bagpipes' thread in the Celtic Musicians sub-forum: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...agpipes-41561/

I just read through that old thread, John. A GREAT thread it was. I pretty much stick to those same methods when teaching drumming students.

I started piping when I was a kid. I dropped it after a while (time constraints) but recently picked up my chanter again. I have very little practice time these days but some of the old licks are still there. "The College of Piping" is, indeed, an EXCELLENT resource. My pipe teacher used that book religeously and it paid off at the time.
