On eBay!
There is a lovely functional brass cantle sporran for sale on ebay at the moment the same vendor has another auction for a matching brass buckle and belt. The sporran is similar to the M.O.D. style but in a civilian fashion, similar to the lovely heirloom quality creations of Artificer.
I'd normally be on these for my collection however I've now had to divert the funds to a more worthy use, my daughters tuition... I hope some one from here is successful! Good luck!

At least the seller will be very happy, since threads like this ensure that no benefit accrues to those who take the time and effort to regularly search out good ebay deals...

Very smart, but I'd rather commission Scott, myself. I wonder if a thistle shaped ferrule could be fabricated? I really like that!
Cheers,

I was thinking that that sporran on Ebay was possibly, probably, made by Alexander Robertson, Ach-na-Cloich House, Kiltarlity, Invernesshire.
I saw a few of his sporrans being worn back in the 80s, and my wife and I visited him at his home in 1986. I bought one and had it for many years but eventually sold it.
He said that he had made a sporran for Prince Charles, if I recall.
Probably not a screw opening, but a spring inside the knob? I remember that Alex's sporrans were lovely but that the mechanism had a bit of a homemade look, though functioning well.

I had considered bidding on these, but the sporran is now well outside what I am willing to pay.
