So far, my longest is the one I'm currently waiting on, due to ship this week, exactly 5 months to the day, from when I ordered it. It's a hand-sewn by D.C. Dalgliesh, in a tartan of my design. So a lot of the wait was in having the wool custom woven. I spoke to Helen (the kiltmaker @ Dalgliesh) just last Friday morning, as we finalized where the tartan would be pleated to the stripe.

    Edit: It shipped today.

For me (I have 5 wool kilts) the longest wait was 10 weeks but the average was 9. If it's your first hand made kilt, or your wool first kilt, I'm not opposed to buying an inexpensive generic kilt to kind of hold you over .

My "hold over" was a nice (one week wait) black watch, that I later sold for about 60% of what I paid for it, and for me the 20-30 $$ loss was well worth the "having a new kilt feel" that I got by getting the OFF THE RACK PV kilt to kind of tide me over.

From a well known kilt maker who is continually busy on several kilts I waited 8 months from the time I mailed my tartan and measurements until the kilt arrived in the post. Well worth every day that I waited I must add.
