Agree, the blue or the green from the kilt tartan (but not tartan flashes).

For Brick Red you need Mortar Gray!!!

But, seriously, you could attempt to match one of the colors in the kilt as a contrast to the color of the hose, as others have suggested. However, you could also use a color that compliments both without necessarily matching, such as yellow. Ecru (off white or natural) or black, would also work well, in my opinion.

I have a pair of Brick Red hose myself and have worn different colors of flashes with them. My green flashes make them look, well... Christmas'y (maybe it's the color of green).

I'd suggest Lovat green....or a colour that picks up something in the tie you are wearing (if you plan to wear a tie)

    Cheers...Bill

How about black? I have a set of black garters I purchased from the Scottish Tartan Museum. They're my catch-all garters (go with anything.)

Personally I prefer avoiding the colours present in the kilt when possible, and allowing the hose/flashes to set up their own separate colour duality. (Ditto the shirt and necktie.)

A Black Watch kilt with red hose (very nice!) so why not yellow garters? (I'm imagining a slightly mustardish yellow, not lemon yellow.)

See how nicely these colours look? Matching the kilt be darned!

Or if blue, why not sky blue or ancient blue? A blue that zings nicely with the hose and is distinctly different from the blue in the kilt.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. What a lot to choose from, now to decide which one! First things first - I have to clean out the couch to see how much I can scrape up to add these to my collection.

Would have to agree with the combination of navy or black flashes with the red hose. I have used navy hose with red flashes with my own Black Watch.

Make them yourself, it's not hard at all (check the Tutorials & How-To's part of this forum). That way you could make different colours for the price of what you would pay for one pair of flashes.
