    Sporran serendipity

One of the prime benefits of this site is the discovery of resources that you didn't know about. I have been looking for a day sporran and found out about Rkilts in Stratford, which is only 45 miles from where I live. I checked out the web site and fell in love with the classic sporran. Today a buddy of mine and I went to visit Robert's workshop and I ordered a belt, sporran and strap that he will make after he gets more leather in the mid brown colour that I like. He had a piece of buffalo hide that was perfect but, alas, not large enough so I'll have to wait a while. Robert's work is exactly what I have been looking for. I did buy a lovely pair of grey hose.

What was ironic is that I discovered that Robert had been a vendor at the festival that my wife I run (Goderich Celtic Roots Festival). I was unaware of this because during the festival I rarely make it to the craft village as I am always needed somewhere else. My buddy is also a theatre director and knew Robert through his gig as a teacher in the theatre programme at Ryerson. Serendipity rules.
Speaking of theatre, I was in our costume area last night looking for some military miniature medals for one of our actors and found that someone has donated a horse hair sporran. Now the theatre will never use it so I hope to buy it on the understanding that I will loan it back if it is ever needed in a future production.
So possibly two sporrans in 24 hours! Now, wish me luck as this coming Sunday is dress rehearsal for The Great Storm of 1913.

Robert is a fine craftsman and a good friend. I always enjoy my visits with him.

    Photos coming, I hope?

I know nothing about Rkilts sporrans, I'd like to see them. I'll Google it right now!

    EDIT: I found them straightaway

The sporrans on the lower right and lower left are superb MOD style sporrans! I've always loved that classy understated "less is more" look. And the leather colours are particularly appealing.

I have 2 of his braided sporran straps and can attest to their quality and his excellent customer service.

    Cheers...Bill
