To add a touch of perspective, in the UK there is a dating agency called 'Uniform Dating' for those who like folks who are fireman, nurses etc.
At first I heard a lot of negative comments about fetishism, but having spoken to guys in uniform, they have had good results from genuine women who are more underestanding of the irregular hours etc than from some 'normal' dating sites. Yes, one guy still got a complete weirdo for one date, but in general he thought it was good - he's now married with a kid on the way.

I personally didn't have much luck when using dating sites (met my wife through a penpal site), but know a lot of people who found their now longterm partner/wife/husband through these sites.

If uniform guys/girls can have a dating site, why not Kilties?

I would think it would take more than kilts to cement any relationship.

Personality and a wider range of interests would be necessary.

And what if kilties wish to date other kilties? Would they be catered for?

For me, chance meetings are a long shot for a relationship...though it does happen... No clue how many women married a guy because she was lonely and he asked her to a movie. Some say, you marry the person that is there when YOU decide to get married.

For those of us single, and happy that way, personals are a gift. I've found the secret is to be myself. No point in painting myself as something else.

And, I've gained much empathy for the women who risk using the personals and are in turn bombarded with crass and creepy responses.

Biggest problem I've seen with online sites is once you sign up they still use your info even if you withdraw. That results in a lot of stale matches.

For all the "challenges" it sure beats random meetings in a bar, or at work, or at church....particularly for us folks in small towns where there are very few singles.

    catering to kilties....

McClef, the short answer is: absolutely. My intent is that the site would cater to any form of interest in kilts, whether that be 'wearer + admirer' or 'wearer + wearer', and would not be limited to hetero-normative relationships. I don't want to exclude anyone. I just want to create a website that helps people who love kilts meet someone else that also loves kilts. How those two people orient to others is up to them to decide, not up to me.

My conceptualization would only have two limits: a) an interest in kilts, and b) a desire for a serious relationship (ie: I'm not creating a site to cater to one-night-stands).

Niche dating sites are in vogue

Exactly Laird_M! In my researching this concept, I've found dating sites for Trekkies, for folks who love Apple computer products, for people of a particular religion, etc.... Basically, "niche" dating sites are very popular and I see no reason why kilties can't have one. After reading multiple threads (not just here on X-Marks) where women lament that they "love a guy in a kilt but cannot find one", and guys wishing that they could find "someone who would accept their kilt as part of their everyday attire", I thought it was time that these two populations should be brought together.

I just hope I can pull it off!

The discussion touched upon online dating, and while there are numerous websites that cater to 'niche' populations, there are no online dating sites that cater specifically to kilt aficionados. With numerous observations on this forum and other sites regarding the appeal of the kilt to some, the question was put to me: how best for those who wear the kilt to meet those who find kilt-wearers appealing? So I've begun steps to create such a dating site, but I'd like the input of the Rabble, hence this poll.

Your input is valuable and I would appreciate your participation.

I think this is a great idea! If you know what you are looking for and what the other is into then it can save you hours upon hours of time and not wasting it if she thinks your crazy for wearing a kilt.... Happy Hunting.....

When I visit the Detroit area, I see a TV advert a few times over my stay for online farmer dating.

Yup, that's one of the niche dating sites that has recently opened. My initial research lead me to an article listing 15 such niche dating sites.

My results are very far from scientific, as I am not single (celebrated my 20th anniversary a couple of months back) and I an known among my friends to be oblivious to these things sometimes. However I have noticed that when wearing my kilt the two groups of women that most often remark favorably about my kilt or me wearing the kilt are either 30-40 years older than me or women that for other reasons (I will not be unkind here) I wouldn't date even in trousers. I am not sure such a site would get enough traffic to work, but give it a try. Were I in the market, I might even check it out.
