http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...andwear-73023/ has much of the info you might want. Short answer? A number of people have dealt with them - and been extremely sorry for it.

Ian at GlenGarry Hats is my go-to guy for Balmorals and Glengarries. Quality on par, or perhaps better, than Bob Mackie at 1/3 the cost.
Shipping to the US may take a while due to customs, and Ian does not carry a huge inventory, so not as fast as walking into your local shop. But I have not yet been anything but fully pleased.

I can vouch for the quality of the bonnets sold by Glengarryhats. They're made in Pakistan, but are of an undeniably high quality. I tend to buy Robert Mackie bonnets normally, soley to help a Scottish company keep their "heads above the water" as it were (I believe that they are the last bonnet makers left in Scotland, as well) but you can buy bonnets with confidence from Ian at Glengarryhats.

Really? If true, it's the first time a Pakistani/Indian maker was on par with a traditional Scottish maker, in matters of Highland Dress. Are those hats knit and shaped in the traditional way? Or made from woven fabric?
Maybe I'm a hat snob, but I've never owned, in nearly 40 years of kiltwearing, a hat made by anyone other than Mackie. The Balmoral I'm wearing in my avatar was bought in the 1980s and still looks new.

I do believe that the subsequent discussion was not about the original question regarding greathighlandwear, but rather, the OP's second question regarding Glengarry Hats (post #3), which is owned by a Canadian named Ian.

OC Richard,
It is indeed true. I have Balmorals from both makers here in my shop. I can post photos side by side if anyone is interested.
