Steve, thank you for your reply. I will plan to order one after the Christmas holiday period. I must spend my money on the kids first. Especially after I just bought this sporran and chain for me. Wife wasn't happy at the price tag.
May I ask what measurements you will need? Belly button, hips and length from belly to the knee???
I hope to have my new and improved website up around the first of the year and this could be ordered there. It would be under "Traditional kilts with a twist" if you want a fully hand-sewn kilt like mine.
If you want a "Custom Contemporary kilt" that will be on the site too.
In the mean time would you please have a look at the video I prepared for measuring for a Freedom Kilt.
If you have any further questions may I suggest we do it via email. I can explain much better in an email than I can within the forum format.

I wear the kilt because: Swish + Swagger = Swoon.
I'm going to look at finances; I just saw you say you have enough for 2 kilts, and I may just need to get this to go along with my Leatherneck tartan kilt as well...

Yes Derek I said that I currently have enough fabric on hand for 2 kilts. That does not mean that I will not spend the money and order more. In fact I would like to have enough interest to place an order for more tomorrow.
So far I have done this all on my own. I spent the time and effort to design a Tartan I felt symbolized the Corps to me. I registered it. I had the fabric woven. With no real expectation of ever selling any of it. I'm up against another Tartan that has been around for quite a long time and is offered as a stock fabric by at least three weaving houses.
All because I wanted to give something back to the Corps that gave me so much. For those who are not Marines that must sound pretty corny. But you know what I mean.
You know that when one Marine says Semper Fi to another Marine he is not just mouthing a slogan.
If you would be willing to wear the Dress Blue Tartan then I would be proud to make the kilt for you. Send me an email and lets talk. One Marine to another.

The tartan shown on the beginning of this thread has all the colours for a Royal Marine to wear. Corps colour are blue, green, yellow and red. My Grandfather was a Royal Marine and I bet if he were alive, he'd have loved a kilt in thse colours. Perhaps a brother from the other side of the globe will see the colours of the tartan and commission a boxed pleat 4-5 yarder from you.
I don't know if this will help anyone considering the Dress Blue tartan kilt. I already owned, and proudly wore, the Leatherneck tartan kilt. Mostly to honor my late little brother, a USMC Drill Instructor. When I first saw the Dress Blue tartan I "got it." It was so easy to see the idea behind Steve's design. The tartan just leaps out and shouts "Dress Blue!" My thought when I ordered it was that I'd have another option to the Leatherneck. Once I received the kilt it blew me away. This is a most powerful tartan - at least for anyone who understands.
What I've found - for me - is that I find myself choosing to wear the Dress Blue tartan kilt far more than the Leatherneck. Its not that I don't like the Leatherneck - I do - its that the Dress Blue makes such a powerful statement. And, just as a tartan kilt - not knowing the symbolism - its a beautiful tartan.
Anyone considering purchasing the Dress Blue should stop considering and move on to ACTION and place their order. You will be most grateful you did once you see how well Steve's design has captured what it is you want to say by donning the Dress Blue tartan kilt.
I suppose I should add a pic too, for those who can't readily recall the tartan. Wish there were a way my digital camera could better capture the beauty of this tartan.
Pleated to the red stripe.

Great pic for sure but best part is how well it shows the Dress Blue Marine tartan. Betcha got lots of compliments on it at the ball.

Indeed I did. Including from another kilt wearer! Fellow was a diplomatic attache from the UK, a member of the Scott clan, and was wearing his kilt and PC. He said he bought it for his wedding, and military balls were about the only time he got to wear it.
